Two Decades of Chesed

Twenty years ago, on the 22nd of Sh'vat, 5748, Batya Zakheim Brecher, a”h, was taken from us. Batya was a kallah, exploding with the happiness of youth and eager for the prospects of her new life. Those who were fortunate to have known her vibrancy, warmth, and innocence, refused to accept an end to the beauty that Batya brought to the world. Determined to perpetuate her memory and continue the chesed which Batya saw as her life's mission, her family and close friends founded Yad Batya L'Kallah.

Yad Batya L'Kallah offers a very special simcha to less fortunate brides by providing each one with a package containing essential household items - dishes, pots, cutlery, basic small appliances, quilts, pillows, linens, and towels - all of the finest quality.

YBLK annually distributes nearly 600 packages throughout the United States and approximately 300 customized packages in Eretz Yisroel. To date YBLK has provided for over 9,000 kallahs. This organization reaches out to help orphans, kallahs from indigent families, girls who's parents have lost their income due to corporate downsizing, children of mechanchim who can't make ends meet, kallahs from broken homes. Our premise is that every kallah has the right to a secure and dignified start.

Anonymity and matan b'seser are the hallmarks of Yad Batya L'Kallah. Each request is thoroughly screened by consulting with a reliable rabbinic or communal leader who is familiar with the family in question. Once a kallah's eligibility is determined, she is assigned an identification number to protect her dignity. YBLK's volunteers do not know the kallah's identity as they deliver the package to the home of a relative or friend. The contact then arranges for the package to be presented to the kallah under the guise of a gift, most often at a bridal shower.

Yad Batya L'Kallah depends entirely upon the generous contributions of individuals. Compassionate suppliers enable us to buy top quality merchandise for wholesale prices, thereby allowing us to stretch your tzedakah dollars to the maximum. Yad Batya L'Kallah has no paid staff; all office work and fundraising are done solely by volunteers, ensuring that every dollar donated goes directly to tzedakah.

All contributions are tax deductible.
